The same child, seen through different lenses

When School Feels Overwhelming, the Struggle Rarely Stays in One Place

A teacher may see inattention or refusal. A therapist may recognize sensory overload. A pediatrician or airway provider may be addressing developmental, sleep, or breathing concerns. At home, parents see the child finally fall apart.

1

Before School

Anxiety, stomachaches, stalling, shutdowns, and mornings that feel like a battle.

2

During the Day

Difficulty focusing, transitioning, adapting to change, or managing sensory demands.

3

After School

Exhaustion, homework conflict, emotional outbursts, or meltdowns after holding it together.

A different question
Instead of asking only, “How do we stop this behavior?” what if we also ask, “What is happening beneath it?”

Regulation Changes What a Child Can Access

Dr. Tony will explain the autonomic nervous system using a simple gas-pedal and brake-pedal framework—how children move between activation and calm, and what may happen when the stress response stays switched on.

The Gas Pedal

Activation, alertness, protection, fight-or-flight, and rapid reaction.

The Brake Pedal

Calm, recovery, connection, flexibility, and the ability to adapt.

What We’ll Explore Together

The presentation offers a neurologically focused chiropractic perspective that can add another lens to the work already happening in healthcare, therapy, airway care, and education.

Why transitions demand executive function, cognitive flexibility, and a sense of safety.

How stress may affect attention, sensory processing, behavior, and emotional regulation.

Why some children hold themselves together at school and release everything at home.

What may be missing when rewards, consequences, charts, and accommodations are not enough.

Practical support involving predictability, movement, sleep, and adult co-regulation.

How neurologically focused pediatric chiropractic approaches nervous-system function.

Two doctors, two distinct roles
